Creating our mudroom was literally a dream come true for me (if you missed the before and after reveal, you can check it out here), but I knew all too well, that a mudroom is only as good as the organizational systems that are in place. Without a plan, my 4 kids would have that pretty spaced trashed in no time!! I thought I’d share with you the mudroom organization systems I put in place and some unique ideas that helped with the hard-to-wrangle stuff!

The hidden storage above the lockers is perfect for my cleaning supplies, extra food pantry items (there’s lots of Coke Zero up there!), and seasonal clothes like snow pants and gloves etc… We used stock cabinets to build the hidden storage and just painted and added hardware to them.

The smaller baskets at the top are where my kids keep the seasonal items they’re using- in the summer it was goggles and sunblock and winter it was gloves, hats, and scarves.  It’s a great way to keep everyone’s stuff separated, organized, and out of sight!

The main locker area got dual hooks for backpacks and jackets. I used these modern style hooks because I liked how large the hook portion is!

With four kids, there’s an endless pile of school papers, sign-and-return school work, and ongoing projects, so these magazine racks were just the right thing to corral the clutter!

One thing that was a bit more challenging was figuring out how to store my kids’ hockey and lacrosse sticks.  For styling the AFTER pictures, it was easy to just lean them in the corner and they looked great, but the reality is that they usually looked like this…They were constantly falling all over the place!

I got a bit creative and found the perfect solution… Command™ Broom Grippers!  They’re usually used for brooms… kinda obvious based on the name, but they’re perfect for my kids’ sports equipment! I placed one in each locker, but you could do this on a regular wall in your garage too!

If you’re new to Command™ products, one side is labeled for the wall and one for the actual product.

Installation was as simple as peeling back the adhesive strip

and pressing it onto the back of the mudroom locker.  If you’ve freshly painted, you’ll want to wait at least 7 days before putting any Command™ products on your walls.

I waited one hour for the Broom Gripper to fully adhere and then popped the stick right in!

The Command™ Broom Gripper should work for almost any kind of sports sticks, they can hold up to 4 lbs. They worked perfectly for our field hockey and lacrosse sticks!

I love finding a unique use for a common product and then having it actually work super well!  I haven’t found the sticks on the floor once since I added the Broom Grippers! The added bonus is that if we phase out these sports (which I don’t see happening anytime soon) we can easily remove the Grippers without damaging my mudroom lockers!

Below the lockers, I used large bins for the kids’ shoes.  To the side, each kid has a cubby where they can keep the shoes they wear the most.  We’re still working on teaching the dogs not to steal their shoes from the cubbies!

We’ve been using the mudroom for a few months now and our organization has been working really well! I feel like we found the sweet spot between functional and stylish!  If you guys have any other tips or recommendations that work for you, I’d love to hear them!
