I love a good furniture makeover- you’ve seen my green piano, yellow buffet, and countless other projects on “Knock It Off!” I have an office/studio/fulfillment center for my product line The Game of Love and up until this week it’s been bare walls, cluttered, and overall not awesome. I’m in the middle of 2 large design projects for clients on the West Coast, as well as a bunch of big renovations in my own home, so my GOL workspace it going to have to wait a bit for a full makeover, but… I quick furniture makeover doesn’t take all that long and will kept my impulsive, let’s-do-every-room-at-once, part of me appeased.
I picked up this piece from Liberty Thrift a long time ago- so long, that I can’t find the before picture! Gah! Bad blogger. I spent over an hour looking through my external hard drive with no luck! Anyhow, it was all wood and had upper doors- hopefully you can kind of picture it. I removed the doors and loved how it looked without them. Those are 4 pull out drawers on the left (perfect for all kinds of paperwork and important documents) and I like the shelves on the right and how it feels a lot more unique with the asymmetrical vibe going on.
I went with 4 colors of Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan that were similar to the colors from The Game of Love™ branding.
The olive and Antoinette are spot on and I didn’t want something as bright as the aqua in the GOL game board, so I went with Duck Egg Blue and then used Graphite as my dark color. If you’ve never used Chalk Paint® before- it’s one of my very favorite materials and you can find a Stockist here– it’s not sold in big box stores.
Right now Annie Sloan is running a Made it My Own campaign and encouraging homeowners and DIYers to really customize projects to fit your personal style. Here at EC2 I pretty much preach that 24/7, so I got on board quickly! Not only did I do a quick and easy furniture makeover (no sanding!) with Chalk Paint®, I also completely made it my own and now have a piece in my office that represents all the crazy hard work that went into launching The Game of Love™ product line and store!
If you’re wondering… we have 3000 dice on hand right now- every game kit comes with 1. How’s that for a random fun fact! Overall, the GOL office is really focused on function and efficiently running business, but I did allow this one surface to be less functional and more pretty.
The original piece had plain handles, but they were an unusual size, so I would have needed to special order new hardware. Instead, I picked up these weathered brass pulls from Lowe’s and doubled them up- one in each hole from the previous handles. I really like the unique style it gives the piece.
If you’ve been wanting to tackle a furniture project, I totally think you should Make it Your Own! Now through September 30th, Unfolded wants to see your projects!
