I LOVE back to school season! I started my career in education, so back to school was always a time of new supplies, new clothes, kind of a fresh start. Now that I have 4 kids it means about 2.3 million dollars spent on all the aforementioned supplies and clothes! Since I’m spending a cool mil on that stuff, I’m also always on the hunt for great deals that I can use in my home- the college sales are the jackpot! I’ve got a few DIY hacks for your home, using items from the college dorm section at Target!
All this target cart needs is some gold spray paint and then loads of plants! It would be under $5.00 to fancy this fella up! Here’s the link to the cart on Target’s website.
This project is a fan favorite on “Knock It Off!”- I’ve actually made one for my own home too! You can get the shoe organizer here, and the full tutorial to make the buffet can be found here.
This metal cart has all the right bones to become an awesome industrial coffee table. Paint and attaching a wooden top would be a breeze and completely transform it into a high-end style piece of furniture. Here’s the link to the cart.
This is my personal favorite! I’ve never seen a $4.99 item look so good before! Live edge mirrors run in the thousands and this hack only requires a single plank of wood and some stain. Here’s the link for the mirror and the full tutorial can be found HERE.
So, there you have it. 4 hacks for your home that will lessen the blow of the back to school expenses and also make your house look awesome! Happy Hacking!

Love these ideas! Question- on the industrial cart, how would you attach the wood top?
where are the tutorials??
Hey Tarah- They’re just ideas and inspiration. In the post I wrote out the steps I’d do for each one, but I don’t have pics and full tutorials for these. They should be pretty simple though! 🙂
