Hi Guys! Today is a super fun day for East Coast Creative! I’m sharing 12 Make-It-Yourself Holiday Gift Ideas with Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan on Live! with Kelly & Michael. Hopefully, you can watch the segment (9am EST), but even if you can’t, this is your lucky day… I’m sharing all 12 project tutorials so that you can give some fabulous handmade gifts that your friends and family will love! You can check out the other 11 projects HERE, but first check out these crafty mugs!
A blank coffee mug is a blank canvas waiting to be filled, and I have some awesome ideas to decorate and spruce up that plain ‘ol mug into a fun gift everyone on your list will love!
Here’s what you’ll need to make these mugs:
Materials: Ceramic Coffee Mugs | Letter Stickers | Paint Markers
There are so many ways you can customize these mugs- I’ll show you a few ideas for free hand designs and one easy peasy monogram technique.
Step 1: I drew out my designs with pencil first before pulling out the paint markers.
Once the paint dries, you can easily erase the pencil lines.
This one’s for Michael Strahan in celebration of his new book, Wake Up Happy! I love the look of the gold metallic paint pens. They look really high-end!
Adding little polka dots is an easy way to accent around your lettering.
And I’m a huge fan of Michael and his book, but I made this mug for Kelly Ripa, thinking that she might agree with my sentiment… I’m all for being happy in the morning, but…
This Sprinkles mug is beyond adorable and requires no artistic skills. Just make long dashes in a variety of colors!
Ice cream? Hot chocolate? It’s up to you!
Did someone say Monogram mug?! This project is cute and easy enough to even have your kiddos help (if you have them. If not, I have 4- I can loan you one of mine for a crafternoon! lol)
Step 1: Choose a sticker and place it on the center of your mug. Press down lightly- you don’t need it to fully adhere.
Step 2: Use a paint pen to accent around the sticker. Adding lots of little dots around the letter creates a cool glitter-like effect when the sticker is removed.
Step 3: Once you’re happy with your dots, remove the sticker.
Don’t worry if the paint smears a little bit when you take off the sticker- you can wipe off the smears with a tissue before it dries.
How fun are all of these mugs?!?
Now you’ve seen how simple it is to jazz up these ordinary mugs into awesome gifts for all your friends and family!

After the mugs are painted will the paint wash off in the dishwasher?
We used sharpies and paint markers for these, then baked them in the oven for about 30 minutes at 450 degrees to really get a solid, long-lasting color.
