hey there! I'm monica

I pride myself on making amazing style and design accessible for everyone, regardless of location, budget, or ability! My design philosophy is rooted in authenticity + attainability - If I can do it, you can too! My work has been featured in countless publications, but I take the most pride in homeowners that have been personally inspired by my DIY ideas and have tried something in their own homes!

Our family takes our growth chart very seriously. I’m not sure many families can say that (lol), but we measure the kids on their birthday and half birthday until they’re 10 years old, and then annually after that.  Boys with a special black Sharpie, girls with brown.  Eric has the dates set in his Outlook calendar with reminders until like 2035! No joke!  We love comparing the kids at each age and seeing how much they’ve grown- it’s fun!  So, when I was planning the nursery for the Lowe’s Fall Makeover, I knew a DIY growth chart was a must!  I wanted it to be simple and modern and not too cutesy.  I love how it turned out!

Here’s How To Make Your Own:

Materials:  1x8x8 Pine Board | Metal House Numbers | Spray Paint | White Latex Paint | Screw Driver |

Step 1:

Paint the 1×8 board any color you’d like. I used a standard ultra white trim paint I picked up at Lowe’s.

Step 2:

Spray paint each house number. 1-6 (unless you plan on having a super tall kid, then maybe 1-7).

This step is optional, but I didn’t want silver metallic numbers, so I spray painted mine indigo blue- it’s kind of like a slate blue.

Step 3:

Once the board and numbers are dry, attach the numbers into the board following the directions that are included.  I love this specific brand of house numbers for a few reasons. 1- Their sleek modern style 2- The option to install flush or to have the numbers “float” off the wood a bit like I did and  3- They have the EASIEST templates that make installation a breeze!

That’s it!  It really is such a simple DIY project, but looks like we spent a bundle at a modern boutique!

What size numbers did you use? They come in different lengths and the link no longer works for the ones you used. Thanks!
