As a blogger and TV host, I love helping homeowner transform a space and usually that involves me getting my hands dirty right alongside them. Lately, I’ve been doing more “design coaching”- helping homeowners come up with a vision, plan, and creating a projects list, and then stepping back and letting them make the vision a reality. I coach them from the sidelines, answer questions, give some input, but really let them run with it. That’s exactly the process I used for this DIY Woodland Themed Nursery.
These homeowners had quite the challenge before them… A) They had never attempted any DIY projects before (except for painting) and B) This is the room in it’s BEFORE state
Nothing terrible, but also not once ounce of style or personality except for their little maltese Aspen- he’s the coolest!
We had to keep the yellow walls pictured in the before (on 3 out of the 4 walls) because the couple had just painted before they asked for my help and apparently re-painting wasn’t an option. lol. I knew we could make them work. No worries here.
The baby daddy (aka husband/homeowner) loves camping and hiking and all things outdoors and the baby mama was pretty laid back about the style, so we went with a woodland theme. We knew if the baby daddy was on board with the room, he’d be more excited and willing to tackle the DIY projects… see, I’m tricky like that!
Here’s the list of projects I planned for the Homeowners:
– Build Window Bench Seat with Cushion
-Upcycle Thrifted Dresser
-Wall Mural
– Stump Side Table
– Bear Wall Accent
– Log Wall Swing
The addition of the window seat and addition of new blinds from Bali made a huge impact on the room.
I’m sharing the tutorial for this fun and simple DIY wood slice garland over on the Bali Blinds blog, check it out here.
This couple blew me away with this makeover. I loved texting back and forth, face-timing to give them input, and cheering them on throughout their DIY journey!
I’ll be sharing more details on some of the other projects next week, but be sure to check out the Wood Slice Garland today- I think it could be an awesome holiday accent too!

I think design coaching is a wonderful idea! It would really help people out like me that have a clue but cannot pull it all together using their own thoughts!
The room is simple but beautiful! Did you purchase the rug or is that a DIY?
I am new to your blog and sure my question is not a new one, so what happened to your show?
Can’t find any new episode on livewell network.
Did you move it or got cancelled!!!?
Just asking
Super cute nursery! I love the little details… from the twig pulls on the cabinet, to the stump side table. We just finished a girl version of a woodland nursery for my niece-so much fun!
I realy enjoy watching all that you do, it gives me ideas on things I can do to bring my home into the 21 century, with out spending tons of money.
