hey there! I'm monica

I pride myself on making amazing style and design accessible for everyone, regardless of location, budget, or ability! My design philosophy is rooted in authenticity + attainability - If I can do it, you can too! My work has been featured in countless publications, but I take the most pride in homeowners that have been personally inspired by my DIY ideas and have tried something in their own homes!

Hey Guys! Sorry for the radio silence lately.  There’s a lot going on behind the scenes and I’m excited to share some exciting announcements with you soon (…ahem new blog design… ahem an EC2 store…and more!)

Today I’m crossing the line… (no shocker there right?!?) and bringing out Christmas!  I’ve actually been working my tail off helping get two stores up and running and the decor there is all Christmas since the Grand Opening at the end of December.  I’ve been blaring Christmas music on Pandora for two weeks!  It’s a sin- I know!

For this month’s Cricut Design Space Star Challenge our team had a Holiday Sparkle theme… Incase you haven’t noticed, I’m not really the “sparkle” type.  So, I thought of things that sparkle- like gems- and even better, geometric gems!

DIY CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS East Coast Creative

I have been completely obsessed with Scandinavian design (more on that in another post), so I went with black ornaments cut with my Cricut Explore  on heavy glitter card stock.

Here’s how to make your own:

1. Download my free geometric shapes HERE.  I just designed them in Photoshop using thick solid lines- you can easily make your own.  I ended up only using two different shapes, but you could mix and match as many as you want. I realized that these two shapes can look like a bunch of different ones if I just hung them in different directions.

Geo 3 THICKGeo Shape 2 THICK2. Upload your shapes into the Cricut Design Space.  Yes, you need to have a Cricut to do that- If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times- put that bad boy on your Christmas list! I honestly use it about 5x a week lately!

For this project, I only needed the cut function of my Cricut Explore, but they just launched a new print then cut feature that works with your home printer.  I’m pretty excited to try it out!

You can cut out of a material of your choice, but I’d recommend a heavy card stock or chipboard, so that your ornaments have some stability.  I used a thick, black glittered card stock for my ornaments.  I’m not usually a glitter gal, but I do like how it works with the modern shape.

3.  Add a string, hang ’em up and you have yourself a pair of Modern Christmas Ornaments!

DIY Christmas Ornaments

Since I’m into the whole black and white thing, and since I don’t have a Christmas tree up yet (it’s October people)- I spray painted a branch white and then used black yarn to accent it.  It’s actually part of the decor at the thrift store I’m working on. I love how these modern Christmas ornaments look on the branch- and I may or may not be debating using a branch tree for Christmas this year!!

Hello, I love your show(s) I bought my home 5 years ago. I started a basement project about 3 years ago and still it sits empty. I would love for you gals to come to my home in Brookfield, Illinois. My town is about 10 miles west of downtown Chicago. There is a large zoo named Brookfield Zoo and also a lane turn about like you would see in England. I do have a budget of $1,500.00 and several ideas. My ideas include a small home theater, a small work out room, just something fun and funky. I am totally open to any projects you gals would have in mind and give you the freedom to express your creativity. I hope to be considered for a project. Thank you very much. AJ
