Happy Monday, friends! We’re starting another week of filming Knock it Off this morning and are off to transform a room into something fabulous! We thought it would be fun to give you a glimpse into what a day of filming looks like for us…through pictures! Working on a TV show is a little bit crazy, let me tell you. We work pretty long hours, have very tight deadlines and have to explain everything as we do it! But, we love our job and are so thankful that we get to work with awesome people who make it so much fun. Plus, we get paid to do awesome projects with ridiculously helpful and excited homeowners. Not too shabby, huh? So, take a peek at what our everyday looks like.
Unfortunately for us, our day starts eeeaaarly.
You’d be surprised at how long it takes us to get “camera-ready”…..or maybe you’re not surprised at all.
Obviously, this one applies only to me. While Monica is taming that mane of hers, I try to squeeze in a snuggle with Bennett before heading out. Sometimes I’m gone before he wakes up, and am home after he’s in bed, so I take whatever chance I get to have a few minutes with him.
Last week, we were in South Philly. Driving in the freezing cold, rain into a busy city when you’re country girls? Not so fun. 🙂
Once we get to set around 8 AM, we chat about the plans for the day. Our shoots are really scheduled because we have to fit in a million projects, all while having them filmed!
Of course, we spend a good bit of time annoying our crew and generally, just being silly. There are many times during the day where Monica and I lose it laughing to the point where we’re in tears. This job is so.much.fun. Have I mentioned that already?
While Monica is doing a project, I’ll check in on our emails, Facebook and the blog, and vice-versa.
My favorite part of the day is lunch, because we order from some pretty great places! I’ve been trying to kick a few pounds to the curb, so salads it is, for me!
After lunch, we jump into an afternoon of DIY-ing. It really is unbelievable how many projects have to get done in such a small amount of time. Luckily, Mo and I work best in crunch-time situations and thankfully, they always get done!
Since painting is the easiest, and least expensive way to transform a room, we do a LOT of it. We are loving up this deep teal color we used to accent one wall in the living room we were working on last week. Gorgeous!
Several times throughout the day, we’re pulled aside to talk details about a project in interviews. That lens can be scary, but I think we’ve become pretty good friends over the past 10 months!
We’re usually wrapped for the day around 6:30 or 7 PM. On this particular day, we had to make a stop at Ikea to pick up a few last minute items for the next day. Add that onto our 1.5 hour commute and we were walking in the door to our homes at about 10:15 PM. After a quick chat with the hubs, it was off to bed so we could wake up and do it all over again the next day!
So, that’s it in a nutshell. We’d love to answer any questions you have about our crazy days, so fire away! And of course, if you want to follow along in real-time, check out our Instagram feeds: @Jess_ec2blog and @eastcoastcreative.
I’m off to DIY the day away. Have a great day!
So neat to catch a glimpse behind the scenes! Love your show. My mom records it on dvr and I watch it over there whenever I can. She keeps telling me I should submit a room for the show…maybe one of these days I will!
What a fun post -and crazy days! How many days does it take for you guys to film an episode? Seems like
It would be more than just the two “show” days.
I usually DVR the show. The other day my 13 year old daughter sat down next to me (a miracle in itself) and said, “Oh, I love these guys.” I’d say you have arrived-LOL!!!
Continued blessings for another season. We can’t wait!
Approximately how long does it generally take (like in weeks) from when you record your show until it’s “in the can?” (Not the time from recording until airing.) I’m just curious. Thanks! I love your show!
Love this! Remind me… how did all of this come together for you guys? Such a fun new gig for you!
Wow….I’m so in awe of you guys! How in the world do you manage it all with the coolest job in the world, the blog, and everything else??? It really is such a cool opportunity and I can’t imagine how much fun y’all have doing it all together!
Thanks for this! I’ve wondered how many people are working on the show and how you manage being moms of little ones, travel around AND do the fabulous projects you do.
Philly, huh? You never tell where the house is. Is there a reason for that- privacy of the family?
