hey there! I'm monica

I pride myself on making amazing style and design accessible for everyone, regardless of location, budget, or ability! My design philosophy is rooted in authenticity + attainability - If I can do it, you can too! My work has been featured in countless publications, but I take the most pride in homeowners that have been personally inspired by my DIY ideas and have tried something in their own homes!

Between working on “Knock It Off” and the rooms I’m working on in my own house (currently piano room and kids’ playroom), I feel like I have a lot of BIG projects going on at one time.  I needed a little small-scale crafty in my life!  Last night we had a fire roaring and the kids were watching a movie… Kindergarten Cop, which by the way is a hysterical movie (“It’s not a tumor!”)- but, it has more choice words and adult jokes than I ever remembered when I saw it as a kid!!

Anyhow, as I was saying…  the kids were watching a movie and Eric and I were just chilling with them, so I did a little crafting while we watched.

Thanksgiving Banner 2

I made this little paint-dipped Thankful banner all while Arnold was toting his ferret and getting kids out of a burning building!

Of course I made the letters available as a free download for you!  Click HERE if you want the letters as PDFs.

I printed out my letters and cut them along the black lines at the edges.  Then, I printed one background triangle, which I designed to be about 1/4″ larger on all sides.  I cut those out on brown paper to act as a border.

I used Elmer’s glue to attach them together.

I could have left the letters just like this, but I wanted to add something a little more… apparently I needed a little more craft in my life still!

I love Martha Stewart’s liquid gilding, so I used that to give a “paint dipped” look to the bottom of each.

I used a small piece of painters tape to mark it off.  Make sure you use the delicate surface tape (the orange inner ring) whenever you’re taping on paper or it will rip (learned that one the hard way a while back).

The gilded tips were just what they needed- they have much more style now.

I used some leftover yarn and my favorite little mini clips to string it all together.

I hung my pennant banner in my kids’ playroom- I might move it into the dining room for Turkey Day, but for now, I thought it’s a great way to remind the kids just how thankful I am for them and to encourage them to be thankful as well.

Boys have a penis, girls have a vagina.

Well, I see you’ve taught them the basics.

Who is your father and what does he do?
Mister Kimball, are you all right?

Clearly, were bug fans of Kindergarten Cop.

    • Monica says:

Haha! There are so many funny lines- but I’ll admit my hubs and I were looking at each other across the room bc all of our kids were watching! Glad we’re not the only fans out there! Thanks for reading EC2!!

I try to live a thankful life, maybe this will help.
The first time I printed the letters they were very basic looking so I enlarged them and printed them and they look great! Thank You
