Hi Guys! We teamed up with Pinterest and Live! with Kelly to try out some of the top trending Halloween entertaining hacks to help you get ready for Halloween. We wanted ideas that were easy, super cool, and didn’t take a ton of time or special materials- basically creative ideas that work for real peeps like you & me! You can tune in to watch these Halloween Hacks in action on Live! with Kelly on Monday Oct 24 (9am EST), but if you miss it, don’t worry– I’ve got all the details here for you!
Also, make sure you check out our Halloween Hacks Pinterest Board where we’ll be adding our inspiration from the whole week!
1. Clementine Pumpkins
These pumpkin clementines require nothing but a Sharpie! Skip the candy this year, and get your doodle on. Try out some different faces, from Jack-o-Lantern, to cute, maybe even a bit of creepy… these are party pleasers and kid friendly, too!
2. Mummy Apples
Another simple fruit hack– you just need a vegetable peeler, some apples, and mini chocolate chips. Your peels don’t have to be perfect, so play around with them! Add the chocolate chips for the eyes, and you’re done!
Tip: Honeycrisp and Pink Lady apples don’t brown as fast as other types of apples, so keep that in mind as your prepare them.
3. Vampire Donuts & Donut Wall
These fanged friends are adorable. All you need are some plastic fangs (we grabbed ours at Target) and some candy eyes. Tip: Soft cake donuts didn’t work as well as glazed ones. They were too soft to hold the teeth in place– in our studio, Chocolate frosted were the winners (and my personal favorite!)
I know you’ve all seen the donut walls popping up all over social media, but we added a fun Halloween twist for you! For the donut peg wall, you can buy or DIY either will work. To DIY, you’ll want a plywood board big enough to fit however many donuts you want to display and some wooden dowels. When you drill the holes for the pegs, make sure your drill bit matches the size of the dowel. Once you have those drilled, cut down your dowels to about 1.5″ to 2″ which will hold your donuts. Place the dowels in every other hole, then hang up your little vampire donuts!
4. Monster Mash Skewers
These are the perfect combo of creepy and cute! I can’t decide if they’re adorable or gross! lol. Grab some skewers, and stack up your favorite gummy candies. We bought some at the supermarket and ordered a bunch from Oriental Trading Co. Tip: The gummies slide onto the skewers a lot easier if you dip them in a bit of water first.
5. Shirley Temple Shots
I’m a grown-up (or so they tell me), but I LOVE Shirley Temples! This version is perfect for the kids at Halloween. You can get plastic (food safe) syringes seasonally at Halloween stores or online and Rose’s is my favorite brand of grenadine.
The classic recipe for a Shirley Temple is Sprite + Grenadine
6. Shimmering Potion Drinks
Everyone loves a specialty cocktail, but we kicked it up a notch by adding petal dust to create the shimmery look of a potion. We tried out Flavor Bender’s DIY tutorial and it worked like a charm.
Here’s the recipe for the variation of the unicorn blood cocktail we made:
1 c. peach flavored vodka + 1/4 c. simple syrup (more or less to taste)
1/4 tsp colored petal dust
Fill martini glass 1/2 way with seltzer water. Add potion vodka mix to top of glass. Add a dash of grenadine (preferably with a plastic syringe)
7. Walking Dead Body Buffet
This was the most creeptastic Halloween entertaining hack we tried!
Here’s what you need: an old pair of jeans (they will be cut) | button down shirt | Fake skeleton parts | aluminum food containers | tongs | lots of creepy appetizers… chicken wings, sausages, etc… (the more gross-looking the better!)
Arrange the clothing and food on your table and voila— You’ve got yourself a body buffet!
