Super excited that I can finally reveal Desiree Hartsock’s nursery makeover! We had to wait until our exclusivity period was over with US Weekly, and now we can share all the goods!

Desiree Hartsock Nursery Makeover

If you’re late to the party, here’s the back story from my moodboard post….

Hey guys! About a week ago I headed out to Seattle to help my friend and Bachelorette alum, Desiree Hartsock with a nursery makeover.  Des and I met almost two years ago collaborating for The Game of Love and then last September we met in person when I did her office makeover.  We became fast friends and I was so excited when she and her husband Chris asked me to come back out and surprise them with a nursery makeover. I teamed up with Lowe’s to make it happen!

So now that your up to speed, let’s revisit my plan for the room. Des and Chris are expecting a little boy and so we wanted a masculine, cozy vibe that had elements of the Pacific North West (which is rapidly becoming my favorite design style)

Ya’ll ready for this?  I present to you… PNW Nursery Before & After!!

Crazy cute right?!? But in a not-so-babyish way.  One of my IG followers commented “This makes me want to be a baby again!” Haha. That seriously made me laugh, and I thought it was a pretty sweet compliment.

Here’s the opposite side of the room.

The room was a pretty neutral color, so we kept the walls as they were. Then, we used two completely non-traditional baby colors that were 100% PNW inspired.  We used Lowe’s Carbonized on the hand lettered wall & the growth chart, and Lowe’s Shade grown for our sliding window shutters.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what we did in the space and then I’ll give you some more eye candy.  We’ve got tutorials coming for all these projects over the next few days- so make sure you check back!

I love the mix and match look and am so glad the days of buying a completely matchy-matchy set at Babies R Us is over.

Instead of traditional curtains, we made door-like shutters that slide along a barn door track from Lowe’s.  A few years back, barn door tracks were SO expensive and completely not homeowner friendly- now, there are a bunch of reasonably priced options to choose from at Lowe’s!  Check out the track we used HERE.

The room has a pretty small footprint (perfect for a nursery), but the high ceilings really help make it feel a lot bigger than it is.  I wanted to draw the eye up, so we replaced the boob light with that awesome chandelier that has just the right amount of rustic elegance.

I brought Matty V out to Seattle to work on this makeover with me, if you watch The Weekender (which you should!) you know he’s my right hand man.  I also brought a very special, and insanely talented friend along with me as well.  Kim from Manayunk Calligraphy.  She is the one who took my quote accent wall from dreams to reality.

I’m VERY committed to attainable design and let’s be honest, if I were to hand paint an accent wall it would look terrible… think more haunted house than cozy nursery.  I wanted to find a way to bring Kim’s amazing work to all of your homes, and our new collaboration White Wall Rebellion was the answer!

I’ll be sharing more about White Wall Rebellion tomorrow, but head over to our site to learn all about it.  Basically, we’ve created a DIY version of all kinds of custom wall art & hand lettered accent walls that you can use in your own home.  We have some basic designs on the site already with many more coming each day and we also offer completely custom designs- so if you can dream it we can make it a reality!

One DIY project that I am especially loving is the floating shelf with copper clothing rack. There’s a secret copper attachment piece that opened up a whole new world of DIY project possibilities for me! Stay tuned for the full how-to coming soon!

The project that got everyone on the Lowe’s and ATG teams talking is the live succulent artwork.  While I was browsing at Lowe’s in Seattle, I spotted these succulent plant trays that were intended to be used as ground cover outdoors, but immediately I was picturing them on the wall!  We made simple wood frames and worked a bit of DIY magic and I’m pretty obsessed with them.

I’m going to share the tutorial for these next week, and don’t worry if you don’t live in Seattle and have awesome live succulent panels- we’ve figured out a solid faux succulent version for ya!

I hope you’re digging this nursery as much as we are.  I loved spending time with my friend and creating a special nursery for their little man.  Desiree and Chris are going to be awesome parents- Chris has the punny dad thing down to a science.  We had some sweet practice sessions while he tried out his material on us-haha.

I love the succulent artwork! I haven’t seen that in a nursery before. I love the fonts used for the measuring markings on the wall too.

  2. Noelle says:

soooo awesome! As a PNW gal, this room is just plain refreshing and inspiring -Beyond LOVELY! anxious to hear where the rug is from too… 🙂

  3. Jamie says:

I’m interested in trying to find the dresser and rug. Do you have any links to where they were purchased?

  4. Jenny says:

Love this room! Using it for as our nursery inspo for our first baby, scheduled to arrive in March. Did you all end up doing a post on the DIY floating shelf with copper clothing rack project? If not, can you advise on what size copper pipping you used? I was thinking 3/4″ but wanted to verify.

  5. Robyn says:

What is the neutral wall color please??

  6. Katie says:

What is the color of the walls? I know you said you left as is but it would be great if you could send the name or suggested colors that would be close.

  7. Janelle says:

I love this nursery, and want to get the rug and the topiary art. Where is the rug from? I don’t know what the slider is for me to find the link on. Also, did you post the DIY for the topiary art?
    thanks!!
