hey there! I'm monica

I pride myself on making amazing style and design accessible for everyone, regardless of location, budget, or ability! My design philosophy is rooted in authenticity + attainability - If I can do it, you can too! My work has been featured in countless publications, but I take the most pride in homeowners that have been personally inspired by my DIY ideas and have tried something in their own homes!

I have 4 pretty cool kids.  2 boys and 2 girls.  It’s a little crazy how similar the boys and girls are… it’s almost like we had clones and are raising the same kids a second time. Their order is girl-boy-girl-boy… so we call them “The Bigs” Kenzie and Kaden and “The Littles” Kira and Cal.   I wanted to add pics of them to our family room, and I wanted to do it in a fun way that really showed off their personalities.

I freaking love these pics!  Huge thanks to my photographer friend Stacy for totally nailing the shots as I had envisioned them in my head. There’s so much personality packed into these photos!

To frame them, I used simple IKEA poster frames- with plastic “glass” because we play really hard in our family room.  No lamp or frame is safe from these little psychos.  I printed the photos at Staples using their Engineer prints.  I’ve posted about those here and here– they’re still one of my favorite DIY tricks!

These are “the littles”

Cal is the baby of family. He’s seven and really mature for his age (a result of being the youngest of 4 kids), but still pulls the whiny baby of the family card a lot.  He’s a know-it-all and actually pretty dang smart.

Kira is the bossy big sister to Cal. They’re only 17 months apart (Kira’s 8) and she takes her role as bossy pants very seriously.  She’s also really sweet and incredibly creative.  I love seeing her creations- she reminds me a lot of someone else I know 🙂

These are “The Bigs”

Kaden is so sweet and thoughtful- he’s constantly putting others first.  He does this little nose scrunch and it’s my favorite little sassy Kade face, so I had to have it on the wall!

Kenzie is our oldest (14) and man alive is she sassy like her mama.  It’s all eye rolls and thinking she knows everything.  Funny thing is that, I know her game and so her sass doesn’t bother me. I see that at some point she’ll channel it and become a strong, leader.  She’s also insanely passionate about animals and could be the future prez of PETA.  Ha!

So, those are my kids and there’s my portrait gallery wall. I love it and think it’s going to stick around for a long, long time.
