Hey Guys! Today’s post is part of a Thanksgiving Home Hop organized by Porch.com – after checking out my project you’ll have 8 more fab projects and ideas to check out! Details at the bottom of this post!

——————————————————————————–

I love entertaining and hosting big events with lots of family and friends.  I tend to have large groups, not small intimate little dinner parties (although just saying “intimate dinner parties” makes me sound cool right?!?)  I wanted to create some DIY napkin rings that would work with a big group and not cost a ton… I was also thinking of ideas for place cards, and it occurred to me that my napkin rings could be the place cards too… AND what if they were reusable?  That’s the stuff dreams are made of!

These cute monogram napkin rings are PVC pipe fittings + magnetic paint + alphabet magnets

The magnet letters stick right onto the PVC and allow you to personalize each one for your guests and you can swap them out each time you use them!

This project actually came from my dreams.  For Real…  I actually dreamed the entire DIY project- the magnetic paint, the PVC etc. I don’t know if that’s a good sign or a really bad one, but either way it actually worked in real life too!

Here’s How to Make Your Own

Materials:  PVC Coupling | Magnetic Primer | Alphabet Magnets | Spray Paint |

Approximate Time: 15 minutes of work | 1 hour dry time

Step 1:  Apply 3 coats of magnetic primer to each PVC coupling.  Multiple coats helps make the magnetic force stronger.  You only need to prime the outside of the PVC.

The primer is a dark charcoal color, but you can paint over it in any color that you’d like!

Step 2:  While the PVC dries, spray paint your alphabet letters.  I used Valspar’s gold (a personal favorite) for mine, so they have a bit more formal, elegant feel for Thanksgiving. I’d recommend buying a few alphabet packs, you might have a few friends that start with the same first letter.

Step 3: Once the magnetic primer is completely dry (it dries really quickly) paint over the PVC with the color of your choice.  I used Valspar’s Brown Velvet on some and  Rust-Oleum’s Copper on the rest.

That’s it! Now, when your guests arrive you can have their initial on their napkin ring waiting for them! I had fun styling these a few different ways with some linens from Target.  It’s amazing how different a place setting can look by just swapping out the placemat and napkin colors!

Monica these are awesome. I’ve been trying to come up with something for a napkin ring for Thanksgiving. When I saw the alphabet letter I was hooked. I sprayed all my letters gold about 2 years ago now that my son is older and the message board has gotten a little more sophisticated. I love that I can use the letters and not only that – make one set of napkin rings and adhere magnets to some other tsotchkes to personalize throughout the year. Thanks so much for your “dream project”.

  5. Amanda says:

I LOVE this! If we were having more than just a few people over for Thanksgiving I’d be rushing out to do it this week!
