*This post is part of our Real Design Series. It’s all about DIY home projects and ideas that actually work in real life, with a real family… not just ones that look pretty for the camera. I’ve spent the last 2 years doing countless makeovers for other families on TV, but this series is all about the Mangin Family (that’s me) and how we’re working room by room to renovate our own home! Check out all the past series posts here

Hey, Hey! Today’s all about the breakfast nook- I’m passionate about breakfast ( sugary carbs anyone?!?) so this is a fun room for me to tackle. We call this room the “breakfast nook,” but really we eat almost all of our meals in this space, unless we have company.
The room has great bones to start with!
Here are my design goals for this room:
1- Lighten & Brighten
2- Avoid grey walls (my husband is SO over them-ha!)
3- Keep the existing table, because it’s good quality and I think I can work with it (not shown bc I’d already started working on it!)
4- Add some texture
5- Bring in plants, but in a kid-friendly way… we have LOTS of company with little kiddos
Here are some amazing spaces and items that are inspiring my Breakfast Nook:
This fashionista is my color palette inspiration (design inspiration can come from anywhere!)
I like the idea of a display shelf…
Overall, I want kind of a modern farmhouse style with a Monica twist… (aka something a bit colorful & quirky). I love this space- those chairs and the brick…
This new Ikea planter has my wheels turning! Did you get the new IKEA catalog yet? So much goodness!
I like how these chairs are kind of traditional in their shape, but the seat cushions add some fun
No, I don’t plan to store my tools in the breakfast nook, but something in this picture gave me an idea for a DIY wall art project!
This outdoor space reminds me of growing up in Massachusetts and also rocks the modern farmhouse vibe
The pendant and the styling in this kitchen caught my eye for sure!
There you have it, an inside look at my Breakfast Nook secret Pinterest board. Now, to take all of that inspiration and turn it into projects that will work for our family and not break the bank! Can’t wait to start sharing this space with you on Friday!

Those are some fantastic inspiration photos. I especially can’t wait to see how you incorporate the modern farmhouse with pops of color.
