My style is usually more on the modern, funky, bold side, but this year, for my kids’ playroom I went with a vintage christmas style. It’s still got some quirky fun, but is definitely a throwback. That wasn’t my original plan- I’m obsessed with all things Scandinavian and I really thought I’d go all minimalist black-white-gold, that is until I came across this insanely cute and quirky garland at Worthwhile Thrift.
Seriously, I can’t get over the color and charm in this garland. I got two of them, a wooden eagle, and two gold candlesticks for $3.50! Score!!
Once I knew I was going with a vintage style, I knew I needed new stockings that fit the bill. This year I’ve started working a lot more with Personal Creations , so that’s where I turned to look for stockings that I could personalize for my tribe of crazies.
I found these Vintage Needlepoint Stockings– they had 8 styles to choose from- and my personalization was free!
The stitching of my kiddos’ names was the perfect final addition to the stockings.
You might remember that last week I had the pure joy (heavy sarcasm) of semi-decorating for Christmas and then un-decorating for a TV shoot at my house the next day. So, this mantle set-up was my temporary version and I’m actually really looking forward to re-decorating for reals this weekend with the family!
Next to my garland and needlepoint stockings, my third favorite vintage item is the personalized Santa List Canvas.
Eric asked me if I got it on one of my thrifting expeditions, but then I told him to look closely at the list… It has our names!
It completely looks like something we’ve had in our family for decades and yet I just ordered it a few weeks ago!
All of those decor items are fun, but what my kids flipped out over are going to be our new tradition… Puppy Ornaments!
You may know that we breed our Bernese Mountain Dog Pennlyn, we’ve had two litters with her and it’s something really special for our family. We love raising pups in our home and placing them with amazing families.
(if you want more puppy goodness check out my IG feed from the last 2 months!)
I saw that Personal Creations had a ton of personalized ornaments and the idea hit me…
Annual Litter Ornaments
Each year we have a theme for our puppies’ names.
2014 was the College Theme Year… Brynn (Bryn-Marw College), Duke, Princeton, Leigh (Lehigh University), Chip (so not a college, but Kenzie insisted there is a Chipperdine College of Furniture according to the internet! Ha!), Drex (Drexel), Pepper (Pepperdine), and Boss (Boston College)
2013 was the Tree Theme Year…
Elmer (Elm), Cherry, Oakley (Oak), Willow, Ash, Cedar, Redbud, and Silver-Bell.
These ornaments literally made my kids’ day! They thought it was the coolest thing to have each of our puppies on our tree. I love the fun style of the Woodchuck Wagon and the classic red color!
This weekend I’ll be spending time with my family (Re)Decorating for Christmas and I thought it would only be right to help you have a personalized Christmas as well!

I just adore your blog! I love that garland! I feel like it is something my gram would decorate with when I was little…I am going to have to go through her mass amounts of christmas boxes in the basement because I too was thinking of going a little vintage retro this year with all kinds of funky things! I just think It is so fun, and would make for a great backdrop for an ugly sweater photo! Your mantel turned out great, and your puppy…AWWWWWWWW how stinkin cute! I love the ornament idea and how you pick names lol. Oh, and I wanted to tell you while I am here that your emails were going to my spam for a long time, I just realized it and fixed it, but it might be happening to others too and your emails may not be getting seen 🙁 Just wanted to give you a heads up to maybe let people know to check their spam folders.
