hey there! I'm monica

I pride myself on making amazing style and design accessible for everyone, regardless of location, budget, or ability! My design philosophy is rooted in authenticity + attainability - If I can do it, you can too! My work has been featured in countless publications, but I take the most pride in homeowners that have been personally inspired by my DIY ideas and have tried something in their own homes!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Personal Creations, but all opinions, creative ideas, and suggestions to help with The Well are all mine!

You guys all know by now that I’m volunteering as lead designer for a complete house renovation for an anti-trafficking organization Worthwhile Wear.  Things are really moving along at The Well (that’s the name of the home for all you rookies around here) and I thought an update was in order.  One really neat project that completely fell in my lap was a collaboration with Personal Creations.  They reached out to me about their Puzzle of Life of line and I immediately thought it was a perfect fit for The Well.

The-Well

The Puzzle of Life collection comes in some pre-styled groupings or you can fully customize your own pieces and arrangement.  This is the route I used for The Well.  You start off by choosing one piece at a time- I thought it was easiest to begin with E, the larger center piece.

This piece can hold two photos and I had 3 different places I could add text.  September 2014 is our goal for the opening of The Well – it will be a residential home for women freed from human trafficking.

After starting with the center piece, it was so simple to just add individual pieces that would branch off of it.  The silhouette of the puzzle piece shapes made it really easy to figure our what piece should go where etc…  I used a combination of just text, images and text, and just images.  I love that I had full creative control over the project!

The customization process was really easy too- just type what you want each piece to say and click preview

I completed my order and it arrived in just a few days.  Now, I knew that I thought it was going to be a cool wall feature for The Well, but I’ve got to be honest about something, I was completely surprised about the quality!  Each piece is made from wood, and the letters are etched out.  I thought it would just be painted on or something.  It far exceeded my expectations.

(sorry about the kinda dirty camera lens, I’ve been taking a lot of pics in the construction zone!)

Personal Creations

I figured out the arrangement first at my house (because I’m impatient like that)

Then, I took it over to The Well.  We’ve finished all the first floor painting (minus the kitchen, which had to be completely gutted and put back together).  The puzzle wall art is going on one of the family room walls.

The room isn’t ready for me to reveal yet, but you are getting a peek at the wall sconces that I installed on Monday.  How cute are they?    The Personal Creations Puzzle of Life wall art is awesome as is, but I can’t even wait for the founder of Worthwhile Wear to come see it and to choose the pictures that will fill each opening.  He just got back from 3 weeks working in India with the teams there and the images are always so moving and just really eye opening that human trafficking is really happening all over the world- overseas and right in our backyards.

I love that this wall art contains powerful messages about the mission of Worthwhile Wear, the definition of RESTORE, verses about value and worth, and that it can be continually added to.  Like each of our lives, this organization and it’s mission will continue to grow, change, and add more “pieces” to the story.

I worked with Personal Creations for The Well, but it’s such a neat idea to have artwork at home that is fluid and can change and be added to.  I have a friend (Jess’ sister actually) and her kids say the funniest things of any kids of all time.  I was thinking it would be awesome to have a quote wall with all of the best all-time kid quotes, so she and her husband never forget and I’m pretty sure they’d be laughing and smiling 24-7 to see them on their walls.  The options are pretty much endless, so if you want to hear more about the ideas I’ve come up with in the last week. Drop  me a comment!

I think it is really remarkable what you are doing. So often I see a problem in the world, but I don’t know what I can do about it. Thanks for reminding me again that God calls us to the place where our great joy and the world’s great need meet.

I LOVE how you’ve combined beautiful art with an inspiring message to create a visual mission statement!! Not only is this something that can be replicated in our homes, but for any business who desires to communicate the heart behind their purpose, this would be a fantastic way to convey it. God bless you for shining a light in the darkness so that those who can’t see can make their way out.

  8. Laurie R says:

I’d use it on the wall in my breakfast nook because it’s a central place in the house where everyone would be sure to see it!

We are a blended family that uses the backdoor/mudroom as main entry – that is where it would go to remind the grown guys that we are home when we are together anywhere.

  12. Liz says:

This would be great in our living room!

  13. Lisa D. says:

I would hang it in my hallway that connects with my living room.

  16. Monica and Jess – I absolutely love what you do. I just watched the wedding episode. Very envious of this couple (brother-in-law). Such a wonderful setting. Wow, wow, wow. Knock It Off – greatest show ever!

  17. Amber says:

This would be a great welcoming piece to add to the front entry way!

  18. Chris says:

I really like this wall art. I love your quotes and how you arranged the different colors. I have so little wall space left in my house, but I would definitely use this idea if/when I have some to fill 🙂

  19. This would be a great way to showcase photos of a family built by adoption – often families like ours liken the journey of finding each other to finding the missing puzzle pieces of the family. I’d probably like to do a project like that with the most recent portraits of my kiddoes!

Incidentally, gave you guys a shout out on my blog today….. your wedding show helped inspire a fun DIY for my daughter’s room. Come by and check it out!
