At the end of 2011 I set a goal to give our hideous powder room a face lift… well, 2012 came and went and I’m here to apologize to anyone that had to do their business in my ugly bathroom.  My bad!
This isn’t a full, makeover so let’s just call it a “pick me up” (I thought about calling it a poop-me-up or something like that, but Jess hates jokes like that. Ha! I think I might need to hang out with Katie Bower or something!)

Part of the reason I waited so long is that this bathroom is Weird, with a capital W… I actually got on the floor to take a picture of the ceiling, so you can see the wonky shape of the room…
Yeah, it’s straight up weird, but I finally got over it and got to business!
Here’s what we did for our Powder Room Pick Me Up…
The pear colored paint, stayed the same, but we added a birch stencil that made it so much cooler (and almost aged me by about 15 years… really, who decides to stencil the one wall that has the light, toilet, and sink! Ahhh!)
I recycled some old frames and added some super inexpensive Ikea prints
The mirror was another freebie! I used a piece of wood that was an old wagon side- Jess hooked me up with the wood.  BFF with barnwood hookups = Awesome! Tutorial coming later this week!
I said ADIOS to the builder grade light fixture…
And fell in LOVE with this outdoor light from Lowes! It was under $40!
I recycled an old, ugly piece of art into a custom piece with one of my favorite verses from an old hymn. I love how the words are subtle, but man, do they speak to my heart every time I read them.
I’ve got a full tutorial coming your way on this baby.  The before and after is crazy different!
And if you don’t know by know, I can’t really have a room without a touch of my sense of humor, so in direct contrast from the hymn artwork… let me introduce you to POTTY TALK!
It’s just a little ol’ chalkboard where you can leave a note while you… well… ya know…  We told our kids that bad words excluded, anything goes on the Potty Talk wall.  The first week we had a lot of #1 and #2 notes, but since then it’s been pretty entertaining. I’ll also mention that Uncle Bry and Daddy are responsible for the potty poems.  Those guys make me laugh!
Last, but not least, I added a rug from Target and called it a day.
The entire room cost me under $60 and now it’s a decent space, with a bit of personality! I love when I can switch things up for almost no money!
Check back later this week for the mirror and artwork tutorials!
What do you think of this Powder Room Pick Me Up?
Would you be willing to do your business here??

Can’t wait for the tutorial on the mirror. And if you could pretty please hook me up with a BFF with barn wood hooks ups, then that would be awesome! And totally loving the light. Thinking of stealing that for my sons room makeover. Nice work. A great change!

  2. Violet says:

Love. It. Small changes that make big impacts- some of my favorite projects to do!

  3. I love it! It looks great!

  4. Love it!! I want that wall!

  5. So nice – for all the grey hairs it may have given you, that birch stencil was totally worth the impact!

  6. Really fantastic job! I love small changes that transform a room! The Potty Talk wall is hilarious–I love a good poop joke!! And “Come Thou Fount” is one of my most favorite hymns ever! I think my favorite line is “Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the folds of God, He to rescue me from danger, interposed His precious blood.” Man, I LOVE that song!

  7. Anna says:

Where did you get that super fun birch stencil? I love it!

  8. LYB Assoc. says:

LOVE the mirror! And birch stencil, I love those!

  9. Love! And “only farted” — best ever! Such a fun fun idea girl! And that light is Off the Bathroom HOOK!

  10. Loving your powder room pick me up!! That birch stencil is fabulous & your potty talk wall is cracking me up!! What fun & cute idea!! 🙂

  11. Liz C. says:

we just painted a chalkboard wall – how you you clean it? When I wiped it with a paper towel, the towel left pieces behind. (It’s not as smooth as I would have liked it to be)

  12. Such a great pick me up! I am loving all of it! And especially the hymn, and the mirror frame (just perfect), the light, the chalkboard (my boys would love that!), the stencil… Ok I have about listed every thing, looking forward to your tutorials!

  13. I’m obsessed with that birch tree stencil! The chalkboard is so cute I read one of the poems and it had me dying lol….I also love that rug where is that from or did you make it?

  14. I love your little pick me up! That outdoor light is gorgeous – I can’t believe it was only $40! Can’t wait for your mirror tutorial!

  15. Jenny Lynn says:

I think it was a nice touch to add a “Potty Talk” chalk board. I could see it being a big hit at my house. 🙂

  16. My powder room is almost the same shape. It has weird angles and 6 walls, unlike your 5. And to make matters worse, I decided to do crown molding in there for my powder room makeover (to be revealed at my blog on a latter date – just need to finish it). Luckily my hubby is an engineer so he can figure out how to cut all the odd angles but he had a hard time.

I love the birch stencil. It looks so cool in there, I’d have to visit the potty even if I didn’t have to go.

  17. That’s a very nice makeover! Even though it’s a small bathroom, you certainly made the most of it. Next time you might consider tile. I think glass tiles or metallic tiles look amazing. And, to avoid the mess of using a mortar, you could use a tile adhesive like Bondera Tile MatSet. See how easy it is to install tiles without mortar – bonderatilematset.com.

  18. Stephanie says:

I love your bathroom! I have a bathroom that needs some love. What color paint did you use on the walls? The wall paint and mirror work awesome together!
